Ode to Leap Day

This year we have an extra day
Enjoy it all, this much I say
Don't waste it all with all your fears
We get this day once in four years

Put this day up on your plate
This day is really more than great
And why I think it is so fine
It's February twenty nine

We may have rain we may have snow
The coming things we do not know
I really think it will be fine
The extra time, it will be mine

A holiday is not this time
But killing time is still a crime
Enjoy your day while it is here
An extra day to bring in cheer

Late 500

All right, the guys at NASCAR
Can think outside the box
Last night I watched the boogity man
Start the race on Fox

Lap one it went around okay
But lap two were several cars
Involving in a pileup
Including some big stars

I listened as I'm driving home
They're near the halfway point
The weatherman might have his say
Who wins inside this joint

I went to bed after J P M
Set his car and a truck ablaze
Blaney was now the car to beat
To win would be the craze

I wake up and I find that Matt
Had won another race
And this is one of thirty six
And he can set the pace

Mild Winter Limerick

It's been a real mild winter so far
There's not too much frost on my car
No temps way too low
No shoveling snow
A fortunate bunch we all are

Rain Delay Blues

It's raining in the sunshine state
To racing fans, it's not too great
A soggy start to begin the season
We can't rejoice, you know the reason

The blowers went around the track
To help us see the drivers back
It rained again, and made us sad
And people there they may be mad

Tomorrow they will start at noon
The engines will all hum their tune
Green flag will drop, then starts the chase
Turning left, the cars will race

Skipped Day Poem

Today I owe you two
I don't know what to do
I need to post a rhyme
I need to find the time

Sometimes when you set goals
You seem to get in holes
I guess I'll type it out
And post it here, no doubt

Friday Poem

Today is Friday
End of the week
Another one over
Continue a streak

Were able to rise
Able to move
Counting my blessings
These thoughts can soothe

When this day is over
I get time to rest
For next week get ready
To give it my best

Excess Pound Lament

When looking down
I know my fate
I need to go
And lose some weight

My bathroom scale
Does not lie
I step on it
And then I sigh

Some exercise
A needed cog
I need to walk
But cannot jog

I can't lose weight
By sitting here
Go to get up
While thoughts are near

You think alike?
You sing this song?
We'll both get up
And move along

Good luck to you
Good luck to me
Pounds will go down
We'll watch with glee

Exercising the Muse

The longest time
I let him snooze
I had to wake
The Whattville muse

Creative juice
I want to flow
I need to rhyme
And let it show

Excessive rest
Is not too wise
I need the muse
To exercise

An active muse
Is just a start
Makes people think
I'm rhyming smart

We're near the end
I'm almost done
An active muse
Helps me have fun

Election Year Upon Us

This is the year
We have our election
And many folks
Stand up for inspection

The red and blue
They have their plan
They hope to reach
The common man

Sometimes I think
It is so vile
They cannot reach
Across the aisle

They make their stand
But raise some doubt
Some open closets
And bones fall out

Election time
This is the year
I hope the best
But have my fear

The Challenge Limerick

I challenged myself to do rhyme
And I gave myself some time
I still have nine days
To find some more ways
To make my creative bells chime

The Nice Guy Blues

I am nice
And that's a perk
I don't know how
To be a jerk
I never learned
To fuss and fight
It helps me when
I sleep at night
I wonder some
If getting sore
If being mean
Would get me more
I guess I know
I'll learn the trick
To advance some more
Forget it! I'll just be nice

The old school grounds

On this barren piece of land
Is where a building used to stand
Many kids would know the rule
Because the building was a school

My kids went there, were seldom late
They attended there, grades six through eight
While going there they learned a bunch
And went another place for lunch

And learning there went on for years
A lot of joy, a lot of tears
Community would use it too
Inside were many things to do

And now the building's come and gone
The empty space will be a lawn
Stories from some may be praised
Since memories can not be razed
